About Us
The Pancake Underground was first opened as a food cart in Portland, Oregon in 2017 by two Virginia natives who found each other on the west coast and bonded over their love of creative breakfasts. What started as an off-hand joke about a sweet and savory pancake food cart between Christopher Kemp and Shenan Hahn when they first met each other quickly grew into a shared dream: to offer innovative, affordable comfort food and a welcoming community space.
After a successful run on the west coast, Christopher and Shenan decided to get back to their roots and re-open The Pancake Underground as a brick and mortar restaurant in their native Shenandoah Valley, where the abundance of farms and orchards makes it that much easier to source ingredients locally and produce food that is truly community-oriented.
Menu
Though the state of Virginia is beginning to reopen limited indoor seating, our dining area is small and cozy and not very easy to maintain 6 ft. distances in. Therefore, we are continuing a takeout/pickup and outdoor dining model for now (a temporary measure in response to the coronavirus threat). Tables outside are available one a first-come, first-served basis. Order online at The Pancake Underground online store, give us a call at 304-825-5275, or come down and see us in person!
Note: online ordering only available on weekdays. For Saturday and Sunday orders, please give us a call so we can give you an accurate wait time estimate during our busiest hours.
Today’s rotating local coffee is: Chestnut Ridge Coffee Roasters Kenya (Harrisonburg, VA)
Today’s rotating house-made jam is: Pumpkin Butter

Local Providers
Quality food comes from quality ingredients. We truly believe this, and as a small business, we also believe in supporting other small businesses who provide a quality product. It is our goal at The Pancake Underground to source as many of our ingredients from local providers as possible, in order to produce food that showcases the bounty of the Shenandoah Valley and strengthens our community of growers, harvesters, artisans, and producers. We strive to be a community-oriented space in every sense, from the food on your plate to the art on the walls. From the valley, for the valley. As such, we’d like to thank our local providers:
West Oaks Farm (Winchester, VA)
Crabill’s Meats (Toms Brook, VA)
Doretta Farms (Front Royal, VA)
Blue Wing Frog (Front Royal, VA)
Route 11 Potato Chips (Mount Jackson, VA)
